Name:
Midna; Twilight Princess
Nicknames:
I suppose Imp could be one... she'd probably kick anyone who gave her a nickname.
Age:
19ish
Species:
Twili
Gender:
Female
Alignment:
Chaotic Good
Type:
Magic
Size:
Despite the official website saying she's 4 feet, I prefer Midna to be about 2' 6'', which is just a little shy of a yard stick.
Build:
Impish. Big head, short limbs and body.
IQ:
120
Birth Place:
Realm of Twilight
Residence:
Link's shadow (practically anyway. It's her favorite hiding spot at the least)
Occupation:
Princess of the Twili. Also now Link's bastard conscience~
Stats:
Physical: 4
Mental: 10
Luck: 7
Health:
11.
Physical Abilities:
Because of her race, Midna has the ability to conform to and move within shadows, and essentially have the same properties as a shadow, such as being unable to be caged by a prison cell with bars. Her hair can take the form of a hand, and as such manipulate things with it. Her small frame means she can fit into small places and run about easier without being seen, and she also has some really sharp fangs if she ever decided to bite someone.
Learned Abilities:
Incredible magic abilities, although stunted by her curse. Able to use the Fused Shadows. She also has an uncanny perceptive ability, most likely from being a Princess. Thanks to whatever the hell Zelda did, she's now able to tolerate the light of Hyrule, though still grows faint when exposed for too long.
Weapons:
Fused Shadows. By enclosing her head within the shards of this powerfully magical mask, she can transform into that FREAKING HUGE CREEPY THING WITH A TRIDENT, and, uh, destroy stuff. She's powerful enough in this form to physically shatter even the strongest of magical barriers. And occasionally, when not using the Fused Shadows, she can tap into its energies to augment her own strength. This is extremely rare, however, and only seems to happen when she's really, REALLY pissed off.
Magic Abilities:
She can use her own magic power to strengthen an ally's attack, and fire small bolts of shadows strong enough to break chains. She can also teleport herself or others via the portals that Zant ripped open in the world, however, the more she has to teleport, the more taxing it is; her limit is a large bridge and two people. She also has the constant ability to levitate. In addition, Midna is telepathic, though this connection seems to only work when she is near the person she's talking with.
Physical Weaknesses:
Even when not cursed, Midna is not very strong physically. She's also incredibly short, and, despite Zelda's aid, being a Twili means Midna is highly intolerant of the light in the Light Realm, to the point where enough exposure is lethal (such as direct exposure to a light spirit). The light from the sun is very uncomfortable. Although she makes it difficult to find out, she has a diminishing sense of depth, caused by her wearing the helmet over one eye constantly.
Mental Weaknesses:
Midna's temperament is very short and explosive, and she can be extremely cynical, brash, and cruel, which makes conversations and relations very difficult. She's also developed a weakness, concerning her ability for compassion, towards Link. She also is adventuresome to a point where she seems to get into trouble on purpose. She is also rather naive about the ways, items, and history of the light-dwellers, seeing as she only learned a select amount from Zelda and Link.
Hobbies & Talents:
Poking fun at Link, riding wolfback, extremely talented at getting even the most serene of people furious at her demeanor.
Personality:
Midna is a very shallow character at first, self-conscious and easy to anger. As a princess, she thinks of herself higher than others, and always orders those around her, enacting dire consequences if they fail or take too long. She also loves pranks and craves attention, and shows a lot of contempt for others. After Zant cursed her with her impish form, she became much more self-conscious, wrathful, and contemptuous beyond cognitive reason. She could possibly be considered insane, though her witty wiles and caustic chatter suggest that her intelligence is somewhat intact. The curse has taken her negative traits to the extreme of the spectrum, and all semblance of royal behavior has been apparently lost. She's very dominant in her ways, and adamant that she gets what she wants, and often throws a temper-tantrum when she doesn't.
Despite all of this fury, need for dominance, and crazed acting, Midna has her fears, few though they are. Her ever-present thoughts about her form cause her to now fear her subjects, about what they would think of an imp for their ruler. She fears her own ancestral powers, and their deceptively easy way to corrupt the users. She dislikes self-sacrifice and the feelings of loss that come with it. Most recently though, she fears the new feelings that have risen inside her. Because of Link and Zelda, Midna relearned to feel compassion for those not of her kind or of royalty, of genuine humor not gained from the cynical jokes and sick pranks she often plays. While she has accepted with grace this new part of her being, Midna still denies the greatest feeling she had learned while on her adventures, to herself and to any others who dare to ask (and would receive a slap to face as well). She denies the feelings she has for Link.
Like the Fused Shadow she wears on her head, Midna dons a mask of aggression, dominance, and contempt, hiding away the 'soft' parts of her until she has an understanding and a certain level of trust with a person. And with such a volatile personality, it is extremely difficult for her to obtain those levels, and even more difficult to start expressing her more compassionate feelings.
Likes:
Bossing people around, magic, power, Link (she'll never admit it though), making people feel inferior, nighttime, wind.
Dislikes:
Light, the sun, monsters, being wrong, embarrassment, Zant, Ganondorf, Light Dwellers (to an extent), her curse, direct fighting.
Appearance:
Her hair and her sea-green markings glow slightly.
Clothing:
A piece of the Fused Shadow that acts as a helmet, and a stone ring that acts as a hair-tie.
History:
SPOLIERS AHEAD. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. ALSO, IT IS VERY LONG.
She was the inheritor of the throne. No one knew what happened to their previous leader, but one thing all the Twili knew was that Midna would make an excellent leader, which was why they chose her over other selected candidates. Of those other candidates was a Twili by the name of Zant, who possessed the same power-hungry craze of their oldest ancestors. Midna had happily been ruling her subjects for a few months, learning what it was like to be a Princess, when Zant suddenly stormed the palace, taking down any and all resistance, and turning them into monsters. Realizing that she was no match for the suddenly powerful Twili, Midna, with the Fused Shadow, fled, only to be caught inches from the portal made by the Mirror of Twilight. Zant demanded all power be relinquished to him, but Midna refused, planning to use the Fused Shadows against him. Angered, Zant broke the artifact into fourths, sent three of the pieces to his denizens in the Light Realm, and cursed the Twilight Princess with the form of an imp. Satisfied with her loss for now, Zant left. Midna donned the only piece of the Fused Shadow left as a memento and reminder of her great hatred and urge for revenge, and crossed though the portal to the Light Realm, hoping that something, or someone, there could help restore the state of her kingdom.
Zant had already taken Hyrule Castle by the time Midna arrived there, and it was here that Midna met Princess Zelda, supposedly her counterpart. She scorned the princess of Hyrule for her apparent weakness, but could not deny that the Hylian held vast amounts of information about the world Midna was now in. As the twilight blight spread across Hyrule, Midna learned much from the princess, but eventually had to flee her haven, for Zant was after her once more. Determined to reclaim the Fused Shadows and defeat the false king once and for all, Midna set off towards what Zelda called the far reaches of Hyrule, searching for a legend. A legend which told of a hero who would take the form of a beast instead of a spirit when exposed to twilight.
Eventually this led Midna to the border of the Faron and Ordon Provinces, and the edge of the twilight. There she saw a scene that confirmed the legend. One of the monsters sent to hunt her down had brought a young boy into the twilight, though he did not turn into a little ball of light. Instead, a brilliant flash from his left hand deterred the monster for a bit, and Midna witnessed the boy transform into a wolf. While unconscious, the boy was dragged away, and Midna followed them, all the way back to Hyrule Castle. There, she introduced herself to the wolf, acting very cruel to him. She forced him to do her bidding under threat or sly technicalities. She showed him Princess Zelda, then left to have him somewhat armed to brave the dungeons where the Fused Shadows were kept. All the while she abused him as if he were her property, but eventually she came to enjoy the lowly light-dweller's company. It wasn't until they obtained all of the Fused Shadows that Midna's views on everything were shattered. They were in the Spirit Lanayru's spring, when Zant found them. He easily defeated the light spirit, and captured Midna in a magic spell, trying to persuade her to hand over the power of the ruler of twilight. Link, as a wolf, tried to rescue her, but was beaten back and cursed. Midna broke free of Zant's grasp, trying to see if Link was badly injured, and Zant grew wrathful. He exposed Midna to the Spirit Lanayru, whose pure light nearly killed her, and left, thinking that a cursed boy and a dying princess could not defeat him.
When Link awoke, Lanayru had transported them to the Lake Hylia Bridge, Midna nearing death. She had expected to die from the light at the very least. She expected Link to desert her, let the light or monsters kill her, or kill her himself, but he did not. He saved her life instead. It was an act she could not understand, and it changed her way of thinking. After Zelda's spirit joined hers and allowed her to live, Midna seemed to completely change. She was more kind, and her jests were not nearly so insulting. Together they repaired the broken Mirror of Twilight, all the while discovering that Ganondorf was the true villain, and Midna realizing that she truly cared for Link.
Finally, they made it to the Palace of Twilight, her old home. Together, they defeated Zant, and Midna, in her rage, killed him with a sudden surge of her ancestor's power. They then went back to liberate Hyrule Castle of Ganondorf's hold. In a way, they were successful, but it had caused the mighty castle to fall, and Midna to be badly injured by Ganondorf. In the end, Ganondorf managed to escape true death, and because of this, the spell on Midna still lingered. She could not bear to go back to her people like this, and so she stays in the Light Realm, helping out Link and Zelda, and in return, have them look for a way to break her curse. But, it is rumored, that is not the only reason she stays.
Anything else?
I love Midna to death, and so I shall be playing her, bwahaha. This also serves as an example of what a good application should look like.
Also, Midna speaks in a dialect unique to her race; a form of the common language of Hyrule that gives it an echoey, mystical ring.
